Synopsis:
Light Yagami is a high school student who discovers a mysterious notebook called the "Death Note," which allows him to kill anyone by writing their name in the notebook while visualizing their face. Light becomes a serial killer known as "Kira" and begins using the Death Note to rid the world of criminals, eventually attracting the attention of a genius detective known as "L" who becomes determined to catch him.
Production:
The Death Note manga was written and illustrated by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata, and was serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine from December 2003 to May 2006. It was later collected into 12 tankōbon volumes. The series was adapted into an anime television series produced by Madhouse that aired on NTV from October 3, 2006 to June 26, 2007. The anime was directed by Tetsurō Araki and written by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata, and features character designs by Masaru Kitao.
Reception:
The Death Note anime received widespread critical acclaim and was a commercial success, with the DVDs and Blu-rays of the series selling well and the anime being licensed for release in North America and other regions.
